Mites: Fur

 

Signs/symptoms: Scratching, hair loss possibly in the shape of a V on the back or belly, scaly skin


Causes: Tiny parasites brought in on bedding or spread by an infected guinea pig


Treatment:

1. Separate infected animals from noninfected animals, treat all as if infected

2. Clean cage thoroughly

3. Sprinkle floor and bedding with cat flea powder or spray with a pyrethrin flea spray. Do not get powder or spray in eyes, ears, mouth or nose of the animal

4. Sprinkle cat flea powder on guinea pig or spray with a pyrethrin flea spray

5. Follow above instructions for 2 to 3 weeks, each time the cage is cleaned
